Gareth Tan is a policy specialist with expertise in policy issues relating to ASEAN and its member-states, and a strong interest in regional and national policy towards Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity. He previously held the position of Policy Research Analyst at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, where he consulted with corporate, academic and diplomatic clients on the politics, economics and international relations of Myanmar and Thailand. Before that, he was a Research Assistant at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy’s Asia Competitiveness Institute, where he oversaw business case studies and conducted econometric analyses of sub-regional economies.
Gareth holds a Master of Studies in World Literatures from the University of Oxford. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Related Literatures from the University of York. Gareth enjoys reading about East and Southeast Asian history, and engaging with the literature of both regions. His favourite dynasty is the Song and he enjoys the work of Mo Yan.
